FOUNTAINS FLORILIEGA

A large-scale, vinyl art-work for the glass façade of Fountains Primary Healthcare in Chester created from drawings of plants that provide the active chemical compound in medicines regularly prescribed by the NHS. White Willow is used as a visual anchor as it contains Salicin, a compound that reduces nerve sensitivity to pain, and from which Aspirin was developed.  Aspirin is one of the most commonly prescribed medicines within primary health care.  Drawings were made from plants in Kew Gardens, Chelsea Physic Garden, Walthamstow Marshes and Kew Herbarium.

The design for Fountain’s Florilegia was developed in collaboration with artist Nayan Kulkarni
